What is acai (açaí)?

    Açai or açaí berry, is the fruit of the Açai palm tree. Technically it is actually a drupe, consisting mostly of the kernel (70-80%) surrounded by a purple edible pulp. It is native to the equatorial south and central America jungles and is a staple food ot the local indigenous people for centuries. It is commercialized locally as raw fruit, but most commonly it is sold as a thick pulp, frozen pulp or spray and freeze dried powders. Açaí Oil can be obtained from the kernels.
